While you can no longer purchase AIVR's Girlfriend series of games, a new site VirtualFem has sprung back up with their new game, which is just like the old AIVR games! It's just like having the old Girlfriend Tracy, Girlfriend Donna, etc. Awesome!!

AIVR has Closed
I got this letter today from Dave Morris, and here's what he said:

Dear VSG,

Here's something you can publish:

Due to a sharp drop-off in sales, IRS problems, and distributors folding up shop and leaving us with unpaid accounts receivable, AIVR has been forced to shut its doors.

We sincerely regret having to do this after ten years of business, but the marketplace has changed, and it would have taken around $1 million in new investment to maintain profitability. We searched high and low for investors for about 2 years and always ended up in a blind alley.

I know that to many, it would seem odd that it is impossible to make a profit on a $39.95 CD-ROM that only costs $0.69 to produce. But you have to figure that at best, you'll sell 20,000 copies over 2 years. The distributors won't pay over $10 a piece for the CD-ROMs, because they want the lion's share of the profit. It will cost about $50,000 to upgrade and test the software for each new version of Windows that Microsoft produces, about $10,000 to hire the model, rent the studio, hire the crew, and shoot the video. About $10,000 to customize the software to each new Girlfriend. Meanwhile, you have 2 years of technical support personnel to pay, an office to rent, etc. etc.

We want to thank our Executive Co-producers and Customers for their assistance, patience, and patronage over the past 10 years. Whenever you use AskJeeves or the Microsoft Office personal assistant, or any of the other new human-like computer characters that understand plain English, you can say you had a Girlfriend based on that AI technology 10 years before anybody else had it. Hang onto your diskettes and CD-ROMs. EBay will be around for a long time, and they might be worth big bucks someday!

Sincerely,

Dave Morris

Editor: I don't know about you, but this breaks my heart. It seems that 'interactive' DVDs are killing off adult games left and right...
